Berkeley Museum,
Old Santee Canal Park Moncks Corner, SC Time: 30 minutes
This
exhibit tells students the story and displays tools used in construction of the
Santee Cooper Hydroelectric and Navigation Project, completed in 1942. Students
view video clips of construction, which was the largest earth-moving project in
the nation's history. A highlight of the display is the letter from President
Franklin D. Roosevelt, announcing funding for the project that brought
electricity to the darkened rural areas of South Carolina, which were 93%
without electricity.
