Interns live in a furnished five-bedroom house on the corporate complex grounds in Moncks Corner. They are assigned to single gender bedrooms with a twin bed for each occupant.

Interns are paid an hourly wage of $13.00 per hour. In addition, interns receive a food allowance of $75.00 per week and housing.

Students work for two weeks each in three of Santee Cooper's environmental areas. Interns will not all work in the same three areas. Work assignments are made based on work needs and the goal of providing all students with a well-rounded internship. Consideration is given to a student's major and interests. Field trips are scheduled throughout the internship to enhance the students' learning experience. Areas typically included in the rotations, but not limited to these, are listed below.

The exact projects and work duties the interns will be assigned will depend on the business needs of Santee Cooper at the time of the internship. Interns typically work 40 hours per week. Occasionally, overtime work may be required.

Much of your work time will be spent in the field and may require you to get messy and/or wet. You will probably want to wear jeans or work pants, a t-shirt and athletic shoes or work boots for these occasions. Bring a couple of pairs of shoes, so you can have a dry pair to wear after getting the other pair wet. At other times you will be working in the office where casual business attire (khaki pants and collared shirt) is appropriate. In some work locations, nice shorts are acceptable for interns helping with summer camp. On your final day, you will be making a presentation to Santee Cooper management and guests. More formal attire is appropriate for this day: sport coat and tie for men and nice dresses, skirts or pantsuits for women. Santee Cooper will provide all necessary safety equipment during the internship

Each student has six opportunities to be appointed to the Intern Program - by the Congressman representing your home Congressional district, South Carolina's two U.S. Senators, the President Pro Tempore of the S.C. State Senate, the Speaker of the S.C. House of Representatives, and the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina. 

You may submit an unofficial transcript with your application.  Students who are selected for the Intern Program may be asked to provide an official transcript at that time.

The appointers will notify Santee Cooper of their selections in late March. Santee Cooper will contact these students shortly afterwards to schedule a pre-employment physical examination. Students must successfully complete the physical examination which includes a drug and alcohol test in order to become interns.

Despite receiving a rejection letter from one of the appointers, you may still be appointed by another.
