Myrtle Beach is a Tree City and has won numerous awards for their tree programs. Their Adopt-a-Tree program has received national recognition and the planting of 8,000 tree seedlings brought the City the Environmental Eagle Award from the Horry Couty Solid Waste Authority.
In addition, the city-owned golf course Whispering Pine is one of only three in South Carolina and 136 in the world to receive the National Audubon Society's Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary designation.

Coastal Carolina University
Coastal Carolina University is a public, liberal arts institution located nine miles west of Myrtle Beach in Conway, SC. The University offers baccalaureate degree programs in 36 major fields of study, six master's degree programs in education, and a new master's of science degree in coastal marine and wetland studies. The University serves more than 5,900 students from 45 states and 48 foreign countries.

Students for Environmental Action (SEA) sponsors Coastal's annual Earth Day activities (this year on April 11). The club also sponsors Arbor Day events with tree plantings on campus. SEA promotes recycling and other methods that promote "sustainability," or the use of resources so that they will be available for the next generation to enjoy.
Coastal is also working to secure funding to expand its R. Cathcart Smith Science Center. This new green building will be an architectural and educational model for the nation's colleges and universities encompassing recycling, conservation and environmental impact. Coastal is also planning to make the fullest possible use of its Waites Island property as a model research center for scholars, K-12 students and university faculty from around the world.

Founded in 1928, Conway Medical Center, located in Conway, SC, is one of the largest employers in Horry County with over 1,200 employees. Approximately 200 physicians, representing 31 specialties are on staff at the hospital.

Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is a 219-bed acute care hospital serving residents and visitors of Horry and surrounding counties. The hospital has the only cardiac surgery program in Horry and Georgetown counties and is a designated trauma center.
